Two seminars and workshop on The Language Learning Package for Pre-primary Children were successfully held in upper half of May 2010 to expound on the rationale behind the production of the Package, demonstrate its application methods and suggest ways to upgrade pre-primary students’ language proficiency. The events met with enthusiastic responses from 340 parents and teachers of 110 nursery schools and kindergartens.
The Package is composed of two learning activities handbooks (each is accompanied by a resource CD-ROM) tailor-made for kindergarten 2 (K2) and kindergarten 3 (K3) students respectively, and a teacher's manual. The language learning activities have been tried and tested in kindergartens. The results revealed that children had made progress in listening, speaking, reading and writing, and those of weaker language abilities had exhibited a substantial improvement.
Studies revealed that one in ten of primary students may be potentially dyslexic. To address the problem, Heep Hong Society was invited to participate in the "READ & WRITE: A Jockey Club Learning Support Network" by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust 2006 to produce a pre-primary language learning package, which is applicable to both ordinary students and children with potentially dyslexic problems in kindergartens and nursery schools in Hong Kong.
