“Train the Trainer Programme of Autism: Theory and Practice” was successfully held by Heep Hong Society, Children’s Hospital of Fudan University and Shanghai Qingcongquan Training Centre in Shanghai between 21 November and 26 November 2009. At the opening ceremony, Ms Nancy Tsang, Heep Hong’s Director, introduced the Education and Rehabilitation Services for Autistic Children in Hong Kong. Seven experienced teachers and therapists of the Society also provided training in specific areas thereafter.
The Programme enrollments exceeded our expectations. It drew more than 150 clinicians, therapists and teachers in hospitals, childcare centres, special schools and training institutions, and parents across the country. Trainees paid intense attention to classes and participated in group discussions enthusiastically. Having gained a lot of insights from the programme, trainees indicated a wish that more training could be held by the Society in the vicinity of their institutions, and they could learn and practise at Heep Hong’s centres.
The professional team of Heep Hong brought with them a sheer number of publications on autistic children for the reference of trainees. Yet, the efforts paid off, especially in view of the enthusiastic responses from the participants.
Heep Hong Society would like to take this opportunity to express its deepest gratitude to the two co-organisers and sponsors. Thanks to their support, fellow practitioners and parents from underdeveloped areas could join us at special rates, and the meaningful event could end in success. The Society looks forward to working in close collaboration with counterparts in the sector, in the hope that the quality of children rehabilitation services in Greater China region could be enhanced and more children in need could benefit.
