The world's largest public art exhibition of decorated elephant statues – Elephant Parade – is coming to Hong Kong this summer! Earlier, Elephant Parade invited international action star Mr Donnie Yen and his wife Ms Cecilia Wang to paint one of the life-size elephant statues. Their elephant statue, ‘Shine Bright’, will join another 100 life-size elephant statues in open air exhibition. The parade will visit three malls under Swire Properties – Pacific Place, Cityplaza and Citygate Outlets – during 1 August to 9 September 2014. The smaller elephant statues painted by Heep Hong children will be displayed in Citiplaza, Phase 1, during the same period.
Elephant Parade raises awareness of the need for elephant conservation through art, and art is one of the media which Heep Hong Society uses to provide early intervention for children with special needs and help them reach their full potential. Children with special needs often experience social and communication problems, and their difficulties in expressing themselves give rise to emotional and behavioural problems. Art helps them with self-expression, emotional regulation and social interaction, as well as enhances their creativity and learning abilities. As a result, children will find it easier to integrate into mainstream primary school and society.
The Society is appreciative of Elephant Parade’s generous offering of more than 1,700 10cm-tall elephant statues so that Heep Hong Children can exercise their creativity to create their own elephant. Their elephant statues will be displayed side by side with 100 larger elephant statues painted by world famous artists, designers, celebrities and top brands as a call for public understanding and acceptance of children with developmental disorders.
‘Shine Bright’, hand-painted Mr and Mrs Donnie Yen, and 20 more elephant statues, will be auctioned off by Sotheby's after the exhibition. The net proceeds from the auction of ‘Shine Bright’ will go to Heep Hong Society – the only local beneficiary of the event. The Society will use the proceeds to finance art training activities to help children develop their full potential and lead a healthy life. Please click here for the details of the auction.
